Our History

From curiosity on a winter visit to Theodore Roosevelt’s story to doors open and specimens on display.

Timeline

How The Museum of Specimens came to be

It all started in February 2025. Lev was exploring National Park Service sites in New York City. He learned that Theodore Roosevelt had a natural history museum in his bedroom. He thought that was cool—but that was only the beginning of the story.

In the summer of 2025 the collecting of specimens began. The idea of a museum took shape too, and the museum received its name.

Museum construction started on December 31, 2025, after Lev and his family returned from Arizona for winter break.

Our grand opening was on Friday, January 2, 2026—and from then on we have been a thriving museum.
