Geology & Earth
Rocks, minerals, and crystals—stories written in layers, facets, and time.
Independent · Curated · In residence
The Museum of Specimens is a living cabinet of natural history—home to carefully chosen rocks, gems, animal specimens, and objects that tell the story of the living world.
On view
A rotating selection of objects from the permanent collections—each one chosen to spark questions and closer looking.
Rocks, minerals, and crystals—stories written in layers, facets, and time.
Skulls, shells, feathers, and tracks—evidence of how creatures live and move.
Labels, drawings, and observations—the museum’s own research in progress.
Mission
Like the American Museum of Natural History and institutions around the world, we believe that close looking builds empathy for the planet—and that a hallway can be a gallery when it is curated with care.
The Museum of Specimens honors the tradition of young naturalists who turned dining rooms into research stations. Every specimen is an invitation: to compare, to sketch, to read one more paragraph, and to go outside again with sharper eyes.
